James Doughty

James Doughty

James Doughty - Director

James founded Hawk Legal & Advisory to create a dynamic boutique commercial firm able to meet the more flexible needs of his North Shore, Auckland based and international clientele. Previously he was a partner at Claymore Partners for 9 years after having his own firm James Doughty Commercial Lawyers in 2004. Previous to that he worked for ten years with top New Zealand and international law firms Kensington Swan (New Zealand), Clifford Chance (Dubai) and Dickson Minto (Edinburgh). James has law and commerce degrees from the University of Otago.

James has a commercial practice providing advice to a cross-section of companies, SME’s and sporting bodies. James provides practical and effective advice across all areas of commercial law, including mergers & acquisitions, commercial contracts, project & product commercialisation, shareholder/director issues and commercial dispute resolution. James also advises a number of clients involved in the fast developing Blockchain sector, both New Zealand and offshore based.

Activities & Affiliations

James is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors. Outside of work James enjoys keeping fit & healthy with cycling & chasing his young family all over the place.


 

Jayne Williams

Jayne Williams - Senior Consultant

Jayne is an experienced and knowledgeable consultant on the team who excels at client relationships and advocacy. 

 While originally from the UK, Jayne has been in New Zealand since 2004. She has previous experience as a commercial / commercial property lawyer and worked for 12 years at one of New Zealand’s top law firms, followed by an in-house stint at Todd Property Group as their group legal counsel.

She has excellent expertise and experience in business acquisitions and disposals, commercial development and structuring, commercial leasing and all aspects of general company law, including licensing / franchising issues, supply and customer contracts, shareholder issues and commercial dispute resolution.

When not at work, Jayne is a baking virtuoso, making delectable treats and amazing cakes for the local community.

Katie Harvey

Katie Harvey - Staff Solicitor

Admitted as a Barrister & Solicitor of the High Court of NZ

Born and bred in Whangarei, Katie completed her degrees in Law and Arts at the University of Auckland in 2020.

Being resolution focused, Katie sees the value in constructing arguments carefully to maintain their nuance. She has a keen interest in strategy formation and dispute resolution. In particular, she enjoys the more complex aspects of family law and relationship property.  Katie is a big-picture thinker, so she is also fascinated by the broad scope of business. She enjoys canvassing the many ways in which a clients’ business will need to intersect with the law, ethics, and politics.

In her down time, Katie loves to stay on the pulse with current affairs. She also enjoys heading North to see her family and explore our beautiful coastline.
